Get a QuoteCentral Park is one of the most iconic green spaces in the world, and luckily for pet parents, it is also wonderfully dog-friendly. If you are visiting NYC with your furry friend, there are so many ways to enjoy the park together.
Central Park has designated off-lead hours from 6am to 9am and again from 9pm to 1am. It is a brilliant way for your dog to enjoy some freedom in a safe, open environment. Just make sure your dog is well-behaved and under voice control. Outside of those hours, leads are required, but there are plenty of lovely areas to walk through regardless.
From the leafy paths of The Ramble to the open fields at Sheep Meadow, Central Park is packed with scenic spots perfect for a stroll. Dogs love the smells, the sounds and of course, meeting other dogs. The Great Lawn and North Meadow are both lovely areas for stretching all four legs.
Whether you are there for a short walk or a few hours, be sure to bring water, waste bags and maybe even a towel if your pup likes rolling in the grass. Some areas can get muddy after rain, and it is always good to be prepared.
Central Park is full of squirrels, birds and other small animals. While your dog might find them fascinating, make sure they are not chasing or bothering any wildlife, especially in quieter, wooded areas like The Ramble.
After a long walk, nothing beats a relaxed coffee with your pup by your side. Fortunately, there are several lovely dog-friendly cafés just outside the park. The Barking Dog on the Upper East Side is a local favourite, with outdoor water fountains for pups and a menu that humans love too. For something a little trendier, Bluestone Lane has several locations nearby and welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables, making it a great place to grab a flat white and watch the world go by. Le Pain Quotidien also has a few spots around the park, offering relaxed outdoor seating for you and your dog. If you are near Lincoln Square, The Smith is another good shout, with a bustling outdoor space and plenty of four-legged regulars.
