Latest Updates for Middle East Pet Travel

June 2026:

Middle East Airspace Update: International Pet Travel Has Largely Resumed

Airline operations across much of the Middle East have now largely resumed and many passenger routes are operating normally again. While some cargo operations and airline schedules continue to recover, the widespread disruption experienced earlier this year has eased significantly.

Throughout this period, PetAir worked closely with airlines, cargo partners and international handlers to identify safe alternative routing options for pets whose original journeys were affected.

If you are planning to relocate with your pet, our team will continue to recommend the safest and most appropriate travel route based on the latest airline guidance and operational availability.

What if travel routes change again?

International aviation can occasionally be affected by events outside anyone’s control, including weather, industrial action, geopolitical events or temporary airspace restrictions.

One of the advantages of working with an experienced pet relocation company is that we continually monitor airline operations and work directly with cargo departments to adapt travel plans where necessary.

If circumstances change before your pet travels, we’ll always discuss the available options with you and recommend the safest and most practical solution.

What happened?

Earlier this year, conflict in parts of the Middle East resulted in temporary airspace restrictions and significant disruption to international aviation.

While many passenger services resumed relatively quickly, live animal transport took longer to recover because airlines first needed to ensure that approved cargo facilities, animal handling teams and suitable routing options were fully operational.

Although the situation has now improved considerably, this page remains available for anyone looking for information about how the disruption affected international pet travel.

Supporting pets through changing travel conditions

International pet relocation is carefully planned, but aviation conditions can sometimes change unexpectedly.

Whether the challenge is severe weather, airline schedule changes or temporary airspace restrictions, our experienced team works directly with airlines and international partners to keep pets moving safely whenever possible.

We’ll always recommend the safest available option and keep clients informed throughout their pet’s journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my flight is rerouted?

This is common in aviation. Your pet will travel via the safest compliant routing available.

Is pet travel still operating?

Yes. Outside of specific temporary airspace restrictions, global pet travel continues.

Are flights to Dubai operating again?

Some flights have begun operating again from the UAE, although airline schedules remain limited and routes may be longer than usual while airlines avoid restricted airspace. Conditions can change quickly, so we recommend monitoring airline updates. If your pet’s booking is affected, the PetAir team will contact you directly.

Will airspace restrictions affect pet relocations later this year?

At this stage there is no indication that relocations planned several months ahead will be affected. Preparation timelines should continue as normal.

What happens if my pet’s flight is cancelled?

Airlines are prioritising safe routing for both passenger flights and pet relocation flights, with alternative air corridors being used where necessary. If an airline cancels or reroutes a flight, PetAir will contact affected clients directly and arrange the safest alternative routing available.

Can pets still travel if flights are cancelled?

Yes. Pet relocation flights often operate slightly differently to passenger travel. While pets usually travel on commercial airlines, cargo teams and airline logistics departments work with relocation specialists like PetAir to find safe alternative routes if a flight is cancelled or rerouted.

If an airline changes a schedule, we coordinate directly with the airline to secure the next available safe routing for your pet.

Is it safe for pets to travel through the Middle East right now?

Airlines prioritise safety above all else when transporting animals. If airspace is restricted or considered unsafe, airlines will suspend routes or reroute flights before transporting pets.

PetAir only moves pets on approved airline routes that meet international aviation safety standards. If a route is temporarily unavailable, we simply wait for the next safe option or reroute through an alternative airport.

Pets will never be placed on flights operating through restricted airspace.

Should I delay relocating with my pet because of airspace disruptions?

In most cases, no. If your relocation is several months away, preparation should continue as normal. Airline schedules change frequently, but preparation timelines for pet travel are fixed and often involve veterinary checks and documentation that take time.
