As a lot of pet owners know, it’s tempting to give your four-legged friend a treat from your plate after dinner, however, many human foods can be dangerous to pets, so it’s important to avoid feeding them any of the following:
Chocolate (contains theobromine – toxic to cats and dogs)
Alcohol (this shouldn’t need to be explained, under no circumstances should you give your pet alcohol!)
Grapes & Raisins (can cause kidney failure)
Macadamia Nuts (can cause vomiting, weakness, tremors and more in dogs)
Yeast Dough (can cause gas to mount up in your pet’s digestive system – causing their stomach to bloat and possibly twist)
Milk (pets cannot break down dairy products sufficiently)
Chewing Gum (often contains Xylitol – ingesting can lead to hypoglycemia)
Coffee & Tea (caffeine can be to toxic to cats and dogs)
Citrus Fruits (citric acid can cause stomach irritation)
Raw Meat & Eggs (can contain Salmonella and E. coli)
Salty Foods (can cause excessive thirst and urination/possible sodium ion poisoning)
Garlic (can lead to red blood cell damage)
Onions (can lead to red blood cell damage)
This list does not cover everything, so we advise talking to your vet before giving your pet any food that is intended for human consumption.
