Top pet names of 2022 revealed

The name that you give to your pet is an important one. It has to have lasting appeal as it’s a name you will be saying over and over again. Not only will you say it around the house, but you’ll also have to tell your friends and family what it is. You’ll also have to tell your vet and apply for a pet passport using that name. And of course, there’s the matter of having to shout it out loud in front of strangers at the park. So you’ve got to make sure it’s a good one.

When choosing a name for your pet, you should consider its length and ease of pronunciation. You could take inspiration from their physical characteristics (like Fluffy, for example), breed, or cultural heritage. If you have more than one pet, you might opt for names that reflect a theme – maybe your favourite TV show – and that fit well together.

The top 10 pet names of 2022 were recently revealed by Pets at Home, who took the data from their enormous database of 7.6 million members. As with popular children’s names, there wasn’t much change in the top few spots. Luna held onto the number one spot for both cats and dogs for the third year running. Bella, Milo, Coco and Willow also appeared in the top 10 names for both species too.

Pop culture references had a strong effect on the list with Disney and Marvel related names Simba, Nala and Loki appearing in the top 10 kitten names. And it appears that floral names are as popular as ever too with Daisy and Poppy ranking 7th and 8th respectively for puppies.
